“It seems like a place in a fairytale where we are sitting because we are sitting on the banks of Lake Werbellin”.
Though you may wonder if 19th century German novelist and poet Theodor Fontane was thinking of EJB’s location today when he romanticised about legendary Lake Werbellin in his “Wanderungen durch die Mark Brandenburg”, we can yet assure you that you will be able to enjoy the same wonderful view he admired from here.
In the summer of 1983, our small restaurant was opened. Back then it was called ‘Pioniercafé’ and formed part of the so-called ‘Pionierrepublik Wilhelm Pieck’. Its idyllic location on the edge of the sunbathing lawn made it a popular meeting point for the children who spent their holidays here. Teachers, group leaders and also employees enjoyed spending nice evenings out here.
However, the restaurant was not open to the general public. This changed in 1990 when the restaurant management was put in private hands.
Many curious visitors from nearby but also from Berlin felt excited about the new tourist attractions. Over the past twenty years, the restaurant has seen three different, more or less successful managers. Especially during the summer months, the restaurants has become a popular destination for tourists who like to swim in the lake, do sports or play games on the premises and then have a good meal here.
Next to the restaurant there is a diving club and a few metres away there are rent-a-bike and rent-a-boat shops. Towards the end of 2011, the last restaurant manager retired and we as EJB Werbellinsee GmbH decided to assume management ourselves. We renovated and redesigned the kitchen, the guest room and the patio, created a new menu and are now hoping that many guests will come and like our new restaurant. On our menus you will find mainly regional foods. Let us surprise you with our gastronomic ideas and give us a critical feedback so that we can keep improving.
We would like to recommend tasting the ice cream on offer which is supplied by an organic ice cream maker from the town of Templin (in Uckermark County). Try it – it’s really special and delicious.
If you want to learn more about the history of the aforementioned ’Pionierrepublik Wilhelm Pieck’ and the years which followed, there is a small Booklet of Chronicles on sale in the restaurant or at reception.
Enjoy your meals and have a nice stay.
